Chocolate Gravy Fried Pies
Chocolate Gravy
1 T. all purpose flour
2 T. cocoa powder
1/2 C. sugar
3/4 C. whole milk
2 T. butter (not margarine)
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
In a small pot, add the flour and cocoa powder, whisk to combine. Whisk in the sugar and combine well. Turn the heat on med. high and whisk in the milk, quickly combining the ingredients. Continue whisking till it comes to a low boil. Reduce the heat to medium and whisk until it thickens up like gravy. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Allow to cool completely.
For the pies:
7.5 oz. can buttermilk canned biscuits (10 count)
all purpose flour
veg. oil
Take each biscuit and roll it out on a floured surface to about a
3 1/2" round. Take a good tablespoon full of the gravy and place just under the center of the dough. Fold in half and seal the edges together with a fork. Repeat with remaining dough. You will have some gravy left, heat it up and serve over a hot buttered biscuit. Heat about 1/4" of oil in a skillet to 350 degrees (I used an electric skillet). Carefully place the pies in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on a paper sack or paper towel lined plate.
