Flaky Southern Biscuits
2 C. self rising flour
2 tsp. powdered sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 C. lard
1 C. sweet milk (whole milk)
2 T. butter, melted
In a bowl, combine the first 3 ingredients. Cut the lard into the flour using a pasty blender or fork. Stir in the milk. Dump mixture out onto a floured work surface and knead the dough together. Roll out to 1/2" thickness and cut the biscuits, placing them on a greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with some of the butter and bake in a 400 degree oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with remaining butter before serving. Approx. 10 biscuits.
