Baked Ziti


16 oz. box of ziti

1 lb. ground beef

1 lb. ground italian sausage

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 tsp. each salt and pepper

2, 23 oz. jars marinara sauce

6 slices provolone cheese

2 C. shredded mozzarella cheese


Filling


15 oz. whole milk ricotta cheese

1 egg

1/3 C. grated parmesan cheese

1/3 C. grated mozzarella cheese

1 tsp. dried basil


Cook the pasta in salted boiling water 2 minutes shy of the box directions, drain well and stir in 1/2 jar of marinara to keep it from sticking. Meanwhile, in a large skillet begin browning the meats. About 3/4 of the way through add the onion and cook the meat through, drain well. Add the garlic, salt and pepper and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the remaining marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Mix together the filling ingredients, set aside. Lightly grease a 10x13 baking dish. Put 1 C. of the meat sauce in the bottom and spread around. Put half of the pasta in the dish then half of the meat sauce. Dollop the filling over the sauce then spread out evenly. Top with the 6 slices of provolone (you could use shredded mozzarella in its place if you don't have provolone). Repeat with the remaining pasta and meat sauce. Spread the mozzarella cheese over the top. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes
